Synopsis - Death (page 2)

Actually, if you want to be plain, there isn't much to say about the true version of Evangelion: Death. Death is in fact a short summary of all the episodes (except episodes 25 and 26), and has a duration of approximately 60 minutes. There is 15 minutes of new material in Death. It was created to inform the people who hadn't seen the series, so they're not completely held in the dark about the secrets of NGE when Rebirth came into the cinemas. Rebirth is a direct-follow up of Death, or episode 24, but more about that in Synopsis: Rebirth.

I made this Synopsis about Death so that you can finally read what HAPPENED in Death, instead of hearing a lousy sentence, like: "Death is a 60 minutes summary of the episodes." Here you can read what REALLY happened, almost to the letter  (Doing it literally by the letter would be really TOO much work, hehe).

Synopsis: Death (second half)

12 years ago. Fuyutsuki and Yui Ikari are talking under a big tree. Yui is carrying the two year old Shinji. Fuyutski is saying that according to SEELE's Dead Sea scrolls, the Third Impact will occur about a decade from now. They're talking about the beginning of the Gehirn Project, later called Nerv. 
Now we see Shinji and his father at Yui's grave, back in the present. It's been a long time since they actually spoke with eachother, about something that influenced both their lives.

5 years earlier, the night before Ritsuko's mother died/committed suicide. We hear Ritsuk's voice, telling us that the MAGI, the three super-computers, are in fact three different persons. Her mother as a scientrist, as a mother and as a woman. 
Ritsuko and her mother, Naoko Agaki, are talking with eachother. After a while, Ritsuko leae\ves the control room. After a short time, Rei comes into the room. She's lost. Naoko is asking her if she can help her find the way back. Rei says she can find her way back herself. Naoko doubts that. Rei: "It's none of your business, old lady." Naoko: "That's not nice, You shouldn't say that." "I'll report this to Commander Ikari." Rei: "The Commander says the same thing about you." "That 's a lie!" (Naoko and Gendo had an affair back then)  Rei: "He said that the old lady is so persistent, and the old lady is through." That is when Naoko starts to loose her mind. She strangles Rei.

Again, back in the present, we see Shinji in a dark Entry Plug, who suddenly becomes active again. Eva Unit 01 again goes berserk. The Beast pulls the Angel towards him by his 'arm' and while it is kicking the Angel away again, it pulls the Angel's arm off. Using it's A.T.-Field, the Eva attaches the Angel's arm at the place where the Angel ripped off his own arm, and it reforms into a new arm.  Everybody of Nerv is outside, outside the Geofront. (They needed to evacuate Nerv HQ.) And they're very amazed. "The Eva reactivated itself!" In the meantime, Shinji's synchro rate is above 400 %... 
 

"...The  Beast is waking up, Nerv has no ways of stopping it, anymore..."

The Beast throws a part of the Angel with high speed at it, causing it to fall down, bleeding. Then the Eva crawls towards it with arms and legs on the ground, and eats its internal organs. Now, the Eva has his own S² organs now, meaning it can operate without the all-so-important Umbilical Cable.

The Beast is waking up, Nerv has no ways of stopping it, anymore. Gendo and Fuyutski are saying: "It has begun."
At Nerv Hospital, Rei's awakening. "I'm still alive." Shinji is glad Rei's still okay. Rei doesn't remember her sacrifice to save Shinji anymore.
In a secret room deep in the heart of Nerv, Ritsuko shows Misato and Shinji the Dummy Plug System. In large tanks, they see hundreds of clone Rei's floating.

Ritsuko explains that these are spare body's for Rei too, and they don't have a soul. She also tells that Eva is human. 
She hates these clones, because they don't have a spirit. "That's why I destroy those." With one click on a remote, she kills all Rei's in the tanks. Misato points her gun at Ritsuko: "Do you realise what you're doing?"

Back at school, Shinji's class is practising Kanon D-Dur. One boy is late (Kaoru). 
Now we see Touji, beating up Shinji, because he's blaming him for his sister's injuries. It happened when Shinji was piloting Eva. In the present, Touji's mind seems to be very occupied.

The activation-test of Eva Unit 03, the latest addition to the Eva Series, fails. There appears to be an Angel inside. It already has defeated Asuka and Rei, and now it's up to Shinji to save the day. But he can't, because he knows that there is a 14 year old pilot inside, although he still doesn't know who (They were afraid to tell him).
While Eva unit 03, or better: the Angel is choking Shinji, he still can't do anything. He would rather die than killing a human being (the pilot inside). It is then that Gendo Ikari decides that all connections between Shinji and his Eva must be severed, and commands to activate the Dummy Plug System. Shinji is watching in terror how the for him now uncontrolable Eva rips the Angel/annex Eva unit 03 apart, and crushes the Entry Plug. When the mess is being cleared up while Shinji's still in his Entry Plug, they get the pilot of Eva unit 03 out of his Entry Plug. It is Touji. Something snaps in Shinji. 

In another time and place, Shinji asks Kaji to tell about his father. He tells a very vague story that people can't understand themselves or others, they just try to do so. 

In a club, Kaji is flirting with Ritsuko while Misato's is in the bathroom, without much luck. He has more luck with Misato. 

We now hear a message on a answering machine (probably Misato's machine), from Kaji. He says he's sorry, and that she should tell that to Ritsuko too. He also asks her to water a flower for him, he would really appreciate that. He tells her that she must 'go on'. The truth is with her. 
 

Kaji is standing near a ventilation shaft, waiting for someone. When that person arrives, he says: "Hey, you're late," like he knows that person pretty well. It was that night that Kaji was murdered. Shinji is telling Asuka that Kaji is dead, but she can't believe it. "It's a lie."

"...Hey, you're late..."

Shinji is standing at the shores of a huge lake, where Tokyo-3 was, before Rei commited suicide, and destroyed herself, the Angel, and Tokyo-3. Kaoru is there too, humming a classical theme. He says he likes music. "Music fills up my heart." He says he has to thank Lily (=humans. Lily is an Angel, you can read more about that in our Information Section) for creating this culture.

"Don't you think so, Shinji Ikari?" Shinji is surprised Kaoru knows his name (they never met before). 
Kaoru says everyone knows Shinji. "Let me tell you. I think you should recognise your position more." (Shinji IS the world-saver...Saved the world numerous times, yes) Kaoru introduces himself as the Fifth Children, Nagisa Kaoru. Later, they become friends.

We see Kaoru in the cage with Eva Unit 02, saying to it: "Come on, son of adam and a servant of Lily (humans)." He synchronises with EVA Unit 02, and starts descending down a very large shaft to Terminal Dogma.
Kaoru can synchronise so easily with the EVA that he doesn't even has to be inside the Entry Plug. So at first, above in the control room, they don't know what's going on. Until they detect Kaoru's A.T.-Field. He is in fact, an Angel. And Shinji must stop him (The only other Eva Unit left is Shinji's). 
Shinji can't believe it. Misato: "It's a fact. You have to accept it. You should go after him." And Shinji does. He starts to descend into the same shaft filled wherein Kaoru and EVA Unit 02 went in. 
But when he catches up with Eva Unit 02 and Kaoru (who's simply floating down, not falling...), he can't attack Kaoru, because Eva Unit 02 stops him. Kaoru watches them fighting, while he talks to Shinji. (How can he talk to Shinji? Kaoru doesn't have  a radio or such to communicate with Shinji...)

Kaoru: "Eva Series. Born from Adam. It's existence should be hateful to humans. I don't understand Lily (=humans) trying to survive even by using it." Shinji, stills truggeling with the other Evangelion: "Kauro, stop it! Why?" Kaoru: "The body of the Eva was made the same way as my body was. I was also born from Adam.

It's easy to assimilate if there's no spirit in it. The spirit of this Eva unit 02 is closing itself in it." One of the two progressive knifes  that both Eva's use on eachother is bouncing towards Kaoru. His A.T.Field stops it. Shinji is surprised. "An A.T.Field..." "Right ." You and Lily call it that. It's the holy unpenetralable area. It's the light of the heart. Lily knows it. A.T.-Field is the wall of a heart in everyone." Shinji: "I don't understand it." Suddenly, Eva Unit 02 sticks his knife into Shinji's Eva's shoulder. Shinji does the same.

In the meantime, in the control room, Misato's ordering Hyuga secretly that if "the signal from the Prototype (Eva Unit 01) disappears, and there's a change again...." 
Hyuga: "I know. That is the time to self-destruct. it's better than having the Third Impact." They're thanking eachother, Hyuga says he can do anything if he's with Misato. Misato: "Thank you."

Back in the shaft where Eva unit 02 and 01 are sinking, together with Kaoro, the last Angel, closer and closer to Terminal Dogma. Kaoru is saying strange things: "The destination of people? People's hope is covered in sadness." 
He closes his eyes and concentrates. 

An enormous A.T.Field shakes everyone in Nerv almost from their feet. It's the strongest A.T.-Field they've ever seen. But further than that, they can't pick up anything on the monitors. Misato: "The closed world..." They've lost the target (Kaoru), Eva Unit 02 and 01. They can't even contact Shinji.

With a big splash, Eva unit 02 and 01 fall from the large shaft into the sea of LCL in Terminal Dogma. Terminal Dogma looks very much like Antarctica, with his red 'water', and everywhere in the water are small and tall icebergs sticking out. Kaoru is floating away, going his own way, and Shinji wants to follow him. But Eva Unit 02 stops him, grabbing him by his Eva's ankle.

In the meantime, Kaoru reaches the last boarder, an enormous door secured with a access-code. The door opens as soon as Kaoru comes nearby. Misato: "Finally, the Angels have reached us, Hyuga." 
Shinji and Eva unit 02 are fighting with eachother, a deadly fight. Shinji suddenly sees something above him. 
In the control room, they monitor another A.T.-Field, which is not from Shinji's Eva, Eva Unit 02, or Kaoru. Misato: "Another Angel?" But suddenly, that extra A.T.Field is gone. They can't pick the A.T.-Field anymore. 
But we see who's it is. It is Rei, standing high above Lilith. (Lilith is spiked to a large red cross, located in a large room next to Terminal Dogma. Lilith is the second Angel.) Rei is in that same room, but like we said, she's standing on a girder high above Lilith.

Kaoru has reached Lilith too, not long after he opened the last door. But he thinks Lilith is Adam. "Adam. mother for us. People who were born from Adam have to go back to it, even if it destroys humankind?" 
 

But then he realises. "No." "This is Lilith. I see, I got it, Lily."  Suddenly, Eva unit 02 was smashed trough the wall, and falls into the LCL. It's not moving anymore, Shinji neutralised it. He grabs Kaoru with his Eva, holding him in his hand. "Thanks Shinji. I wanted you to stop Eva Unit 02. Otherwise I might have kept on living with her."

Shinji: "Kaoru, why?" "To continue living is my fate. Even if Mankind is vanquished as its result. But I can die, too. Life and Death carry the same qualities for me. Choosing Death for myself, that is the only true freedom." Shinji: "What? I don't understand what you're saying, Kaoru." Kaoru: "It's my own will. Please, destroy me. Otherwise, all of you will be killed. There will be only one life form who can survive the armageddon, and it will be given the future.

Kaoru looks up to Rei. Only he knows that Rei's up there. She looks back. And he knows. "Only one will survive... 
Thank you, Shinji. I'm so glad to have met you."
The only thing Shinji has to do to end Kaoru's life is to squeeze his hand, but he can't. He waits one whole minute, and then he does it. We see Kaoru's head falling down, into the sea of LCL.
