Introduction

In the year 2000, a catastropic event known as the Second Impact shocked the Earth. It was said by the UN that a giant meteorite crashed into Antarctica, causing its icecap to melt... A giant flood destroyed all the coastal cities and wiped out more than a half of the world's population. The Earth axis changed. After that, changes in climate, abnormal weather, economic collapse, famine, plagues, racial conflicts and civil wars haunted the Earth. But this information is not entirely correct. Something else than a meteorite caused this Second Impact to happen. And this 'something' will return... It is now the year 2015. Mysterious entities called Angels started to appear, attacking the few remaining humans with devestating force. All conventional weapons proved useless against them, including the UN's key weapon, a non-nuclear atom-bomb (N2 bomb), because a mysterious force-field protects the Angels. The only weapons that can effectively attack these Angels, are biomechanical giants called 'Evangelions' which possess a similar field. This allows them to neutralise that of the enemy, so that they can attack the Angels in a brutal hand-to-hand combat. These giants require the control of a pilot by synchronizing the pilot's mind within. Thus, the pilot's senses extend into the Evangelions. Two become one. Only a select group of children born after the Second Impact have the capability to synch with the Evangelions. They are destined to protect humanity from the very beginning...   Neon Genesis Evangelion (Shin Seiki Evangelion) is Anno Hideaki's greatest creation, which caused a major impact to the Anime world. It began as a TV-Series, but developed to find its way to movies, comic books, games, albums and even live concerts where they played the film-music were held in desperate demands of millions of fans around the world. On the internet, Neon Genesis Evangelion is represented on over 100.000 individual websites. At first glance, Evangelion may just seems to be another sci-fi story, but there is much more than that. The characters have profound personalities, who face everyday problems as anyone else and concern themselves with philosophical / religious themes. In fact, the whole Evangelion project deals with the existence of mankind and its evolution. "Humans will never completely drive sadness away. You can forget sadness for a while if you interact and that makes life worth living." Neon Genesis Evangelion is valued by many fans by its plot, which has connections to metaphysical and religious theories, ancient prophecies and supernatural mysteries.
